Getting Started

-When you first sign up for your account you automatically received $150. Soon after signing up you should receive an email to verify your account. (If this does not happen, see the login page for further instructions.) You will need to verify your account to access the entire game.

Be sure to read the News daily. This is where Admins and Mods will post updates, whether it be bugs within the game, contests, or FYI notes.

Admins and Moderators

Admins and Moderators are those members of KT who help keep things going smoothly. The Admin, Amanda, is the owner of the game, she makes all the final decisions and adds new features to the site. Moderators keep the general flow of KT smooth. They patrol the boards, pages, and chatroom and take care of rule breaking. If you feel you are being harassed or find something that is inappropriate for KT, contact one of the moderators. Be sure to include the offender's ID number and a screenshot or URL (to page or post on the board).

Account Types

There are two types of accounts on KT. The first is a "Basic." This is how everyone starts out. An "Upgraded" account is an account that the owner has spent real money on to help the site. There are some differences between the two. For obvious reasons, Upgraded accounts are allotted more privileges than Basics. Upgrades are what keep the game running. The money earned from upgrades goes toward paying for the server and any other costs the site may have. Both accounts have a lot of similarities, but being upgraded does have its perks.

When You Upgrade
Bigger Paychecks
Transfer Money
Create Shows
Enter Additional Shows
More Room Types
Unlimited Breedings vs. 2 per week
Own Connections
"Financial Supporter" Avatar (if you paid via PayPal)
And More

To upgrade your account you need to go to the Upgrade link in the top menu.

Money

-Each day you log into KT, you will receive some bonus cash ($20 to $40). When you sign in for the first time that week, your bonus will be much higher! This is basically your allowance for the week. Upgrades earn a higher bonus than basics.

---What other ways can I earn money?
You can gain money by entering shows. As your cat earns experience points, you gain player points. Player points can be exchanged at the Bank for money. Another great way to earn money is to play Games. Some other ways include making Tags if you're good with graphics and Layouts if you know HTML. You can check out the Messageboard, some people there offer money prizes.

Getting A Cat

-When you first join KT, you can get a cat one of three ways.

First you can go to the Store. Cats are $100 from the store.

Second, you can adopt a cat from Feline Friendship. Cats from Feline Friendship are $35. (Note: not all cats listed at FF will be up for sale. Be patient: after a week in the care of FF they will be posted for sale).

Third, you can get a cat by checking the Sales board. Many members have cats for sale, for either money or for other services. You can also use the Cat Search to find cats for sale from other players.

Stats

In order to keep your cats happy or to show them there are certain things you must do. Interacting with your cat is a fun and easy way to pass the time. Some stats must be at a certain level before you can enter your cats into shows so these are also an important factor in showing. There are the following cat stats here in KT:

Appearance
Social
Conformation
Obedience
Desirability
Patience
Hunger
Energy
Body Fat
Satisfaction
Genetic Strength
Personality
Nurture
Feral
Rivalry

Personality
--Personality for a cat gives it a slight boost in one stat area (which varies based on the personality). It is also essential for assigning specific ranks to your cat: some personalities do not jive with some ranks. Ranks are described here :) A cat is born with a personality and you cannot alter it.

Desirability
--Desirability is how "desirable" your cat is. The higher the population of a certain breed the more desirable they are, thus the desirability stat will rise. This can be raised through popularity, Best of Breed and Best of Game shows, and through breeding. There are 5 levels of Desirability.

No one wants that Cat.
umm...maybe I'd buy it on a bad day.
It's about average.
I would like to own this cat!
I'LL GIVE YOU MY SOUL FOR THIS CAT!

Conformation
--The conformation stat is how a cat fits into the breed standards. The higher the conformation stat, the better the cat. This can only be raised through breeding and via the Best of Breed and Best of Game shows. There are 10 levels of conformation.

Are you SURE that's a cat?!
I'm still not convinced this animal is a cat...
That cat is revolting.
That cat isn't too ugly.
That cat is all right.
This cat is above average!
This cat is good enough for me!
Wow...I'm astonished!
What a magnificent animal!
Perfect

The other stats require a bit more detail; keep reading for more information!

Interacting with Your Cat

-You can interact with your cat by using items. First, go to the Store and buy a Toy, an Accessory, some Food, and a Grooming supply. Your cat DOES have preferences for different items, but we'll get into that more later. Next, go to your cat's page. Scroll to the bottom, then click the "Interact with Cat!" link. You should now set the default items to correspond to the items you just purchased (all items of that category are listed, regardless of whether or not you own them, so be sure to select only items you own!). Once you have set the defaults, you are ready to begin!

Click on a food item on the picture to feed your cat (hint: the can of tuna at the bottom!). This will use up one serving of the default food you set for the cat. Depending on the item, it will have various effects of eliminating hunger, raising energy, and raising body fat. Ideally, you should keep the body fat around 20-25%. Energy is necessary for playing with your cat.

Click on a toy in the picture. This will use up one durability point of the default toy (when a toy runs out of durability, it breaks!) and also cause your cat to play with it. Toys lower your cat's Energy level. Each toy works a little differently, so you'll want to watch that the energy level does not go to low while your playing with them. Find that perfect toy. Using toys also raises your cat's Obedience level. There are 5 levels of Obedience.

Might as well be deaf
I've seen better.
Getting better...
Almost there!
Perfect

-Click on a grooming item in the picture (hint: the grooming glove in the corner!). This will use up one durability point of the default grooming item. Grooming your cat raises your cat's appearance. It can also lower their energy if it is very high. If your cat's energy is extremely high and toys do not seem to be working, try using your grooming items and getting the energy level down to 80%, then use toys. Cats can be groomed once from the time they are 0-2 years of age. From ages 2-10 you can groom them once daily and again only once at age 10+. There are 10 levels for appearance.

Dingy
Shabby
Could use some work
umm...I guess it's so-so.
That cat is passable.
aww...cuuute!
What a charming kitty
That cat is adorable!
Exquisite!
Perfect!

-Click on a luxury item (hint: the castle!). This will use up one durability point of the default Accessory/Luxury item. Pampering your cat raises your cat's satisfaction level. The higher the satisfaction, the less chance of your cat running away. If your cat's satisfaction is too low, there is a chance it will run away to Feline Friendship. If this happens, you have 1 week to reclaim your cat before it will be put up for adoption. To reclaim your cat, visit its page and it should automatically return to your cattery.

Petting Your Cat

-Petting cats raises their social stat. You will notice on each cat's page there is a broadside silhouette of a cat. If you click on this picture, you "pet" the cat. If you find a spot that the cat really likes to be pet, it can count for 10 pets instead of just one! Please keep in mind that petting your own cat does not raise its social stat: you need to get others to raise the stat for you. There are 10 levels for the social stat.

Extremely Shy
Withdrawn = 200 pets
Timid = 300 pets
Apprehensive = 400 pets
Normal = 500 pets
Self-Assured = 600 pets
Outgoing = 700 pets
Gregarious = 800 pets
Social Butterfly = 900 pets
In-Yo-Face! = 1000 pets

Patience

-Patience is another odd stat that deserves its own section. A cat needs at least a little patience in order to compete. The more patient it is, the more likely it is to place well in a show: judges prefer cats that aren't antsy! To raise a cat's patience stat, go to its page and scroll toward the middle. You will see a heading labeled "Set Active Cat". Click the link there. This will set your cat as the active cat, thus allowing it to follow you around the site. The first level of patience may be gained in a matter of less than 10 minutes. Each level gets increasingly difficult to earn, though. Due to the time you must put into raising the patience stat, it is recommended that you only raise it to the higher levels for cats that you want to enter in BoB and BoG shows.

Genetics

-All of the aforementioned stats are passed on to kittens to an extent (see the Breeding section). However, there are some other stats that need to be mentioned as well. The stats listed here are hidden unless you have a Genetics test performed on your cat. (You can do this via a Judging Room.)

Genetic Strength determines how likely stats are to pass on to kittens. The higher it is, the more likely stats are to pass on. You cannot affect this stat at all; it is given when a cat is born.

Feral means wild. The more feral a cat is, the poorer it will do in shows. A true feral cat may not be entered in shows at all! This stat is given to a cat when it is born, and it is altered while a cat is a kitten. The more you handle a kitten, the lower the feral rating will be. If you would like a good hunting cat, though, you are better off using a Feral cat.

Rivalry affects how many shows a cat may enter per day. If a cat is very competitive, it will be able to enter extra shows each day!

Showing

-To show your cats, go to the Shows link on the top menu. Showing can gain you money in two ways. First if your cat wins, you win the purse that is awarded. Secondly, cats gain experience points for doing well in shows.

There are currently three showing levels. Cats with between 0 and 199 experience points are Beginners, cats with between 200 and 399 expereince points are Intermediates, and cats with 400 or more experience points are Advanced.

Player experience points accumulate for all cats owned. These can be traded in at the bank for money and other things. Basic members can enter their cats into 10 shows per day; Upgrades are allowed to enter 15 shows per day. Both account types may trade experience points for additional show entries.

Keep in mind, cats have the Rivalry stat. Any extra shows they are allowed to enter based on their rivalry stat is in addition to the amount of shows previously listed.

There are 2 ways to enter shows. If you have a smaller amount of cats, the easiest way is to enter all the information (Level, Run Day, and any other requirements you want to set) then choose the cat you want to enter by selecting their name in the final drop down box. This will bring up a list of shows and all you will need to do is click "Enter this Cat" into each show. The second way is to input all the above info, but leaving the cat specific drop down blank, this will allow you to open each show separately. Again you will use the "Enter This Cat" link, but you will not have to revisit the show page. It will remain on that specific show while you enter all your cats.

Your cat may not earn experience points every day. If a cat does not do well at the show, they will not earn any. Each cat loses .01 experience each day. (You won't notice the loss if they gain points from showing.)

BoB and BoG

BoB, or Best of Breed is a show created each month for each specific breed within KT. For a BoB show to be created there must be 10 of the specific breed between the ages of "3" and "7". If there is less than this number, the show will not be created. You can go to the Account #1 to view the BoB shows that have been created. Cats within the guidelines of each show may be entered. There must be at least 5 entrants for the show to run.

BoG, or Best of Game is the most prestigious show of KT. This show is created after the BoB and is for all cats under 10 that have won a BoB. If your cat has previously won a BoG it will not be eligible to enter. BoG is the best cat on KT for that month. This is a very high and coveted title. This is what we all strive for.

Experience Points and Tickets

-Experience Points are a wonderful thing. They open up many opportunities for many players. Experience points are gained by entering your cats into shows. As your cat does well and gains points itself, you also gain them. These points can be traded in at the Bank for lots of cool things.

Item Pass
---All members are limited to the amount of items they can purchase from the store daily. An Item pass allows you to reset your daily purchases.
15 Points

For Cash
---This pretty much covers itself. All members can trade their points in for KTD.
5 Points = $25
25 Points = $125
50 Points = $250

Showing Pass
---A showing pass allows a player to enter additional shows with each cat. The amount of extra shows depends on what type of showing pass you purchase. See the bank for more information.

Judging

-Judging is your ability to see a cat's stats truly. The lower your judging you will be unable to see how your cat's stats improve. The higher your judging the "clearer" you will see any cat's stats. There are 9 levels of Judging. You can raise your judging in different ways, but the most common is through your recent firsts. For every 250 Firsts you earn by showing your cats you can raise your judging a level. Other ways are for you to find out for yourself. If you would like to learn what your cat's true stats are, you can visit the Rooms section of this FAQ and learn how to do so.

Rankings

-Rankings allow you to see the top cats in the game and top players by certain stats within the game overall. To see the rankings click on Rankings on the top menu. This will bring you to another page. Here it is broken down to different stats and player statistics. Just click on whichever you would like to view. Not all cats and members are listed here, just the top 50/100 (depending on which you look at)

You can also view the top 50 cats in each breed. This is just below the overall stats. Cats here are listed based by the top cat of that breed, different things affect this ranking, but the main is Conformation. Any cat with no conformation and no experience points will not be listed here. So don't despair if you just bought a new store cat and it is not listed.

Avatars

-There are several avatars that can be earned within the game. Some are fairly obvious and others not so much. This is part of the Mystery of KT. Some of these are meant to be earned of your own accord, meaning you cannot ask other members how to receive them, you must figure that part out on your own. This is what keeps things interesting. To see what avatars are available to be earned, check out Account #2.

Rooms

-Rooms are way for members to raise stats without using items. It is also a way for members to earn money.

Creating a Room
-Catsitting and Grooming are able to be opened by both basic and upgraded accounts. Veterinarians and Judges are only available to upgrades. To open a room, start by going to Your Rooms and chose the size of the room you would like to purchase. 4x4 rooms are the only size available to basics, upgrades can purchase 6x6 rooms. Once you have purchased your room, you can click on it and chose the information for it (room type, price, and business name). Next you must go to the store under the Business section and purchase tiles to cover the floor of your room. Next you will need equipment. There's different equipment needed for different room types. Different equipment will also affect the stats of your room, so mix and match some things. For a cat sitter you need to be sure to have an exercise area and animal house. For a groomer you need a grooming table, judging needs xray vision goggles, veterinarian needs an exam table. Just for a few examples, mix and match to get the best points possible.

If you want to use the services offered by a room, you can go to rooms by going to Rooms from the top menu. There are currently 4 room types that are active. Cat sitting and Grooming are open to all account types, Veterinarian and Judging are only open to upgraded members. Rooms are limited to a certain number of appointments per day based on different criteria. Only those with open appointments will be listed in the search.

Cat sitter - Going to be out of town? Can't get online for a few days? The cat sitter was created for this purpose. To put your cat into cat sitting, go to Rooms and chose "Cat sitter" from the drop down menu. A list of cat sitting businesses will show and the number of appointments open. Select the Sitter of your choice, now chose the cat you would like cat sat and the number of days you would like them sat for. While being cat sat your cat will be automatically taken care of, the stats (hunger, satisfaction, energy) will not change, they will not run away. Cats will gain a certain amount of experience points daily based on the stats of the cat sitter.

Judge - Your judging not so high yet? Want to know how your cat really adds up? Take them to see a Judge. Judging rooms allow you to see your cat's stats differently (depending on the judging level of the owner of the room). To take your cat to be judged, go to Rooms from the top menu and choose Judge from the drop down menu. Choose the judge you would like to use (Judge in this FAQ for levels). Once you've chosen a judge, select the cat you would like to know the stats for from the drop down menu.

Groomer - Groomers are just that, a place to take your cat to be groomed. Each grooming business has a chance of giving your cat an appearance point. To visit the groomer, go to Rooms on the top menu and chose Groomer from the drop down menu. Cats will not gain stats every time. Cats can be groomed from the age of 2 until 11, once daily. They can be groomed once from the age of 0 till 2.

Veterinarian - Want to get your cat checked? Have a sick cat? Visit the vet. If you have a sick cat, it should be taken to the vet as soon as you can as sickness is very contagious. To go to the vet, go to Rooms and select Veterinarian from the drop down menu. Chose the vet you would like to visit. Select your cat from the drop down menu. Cats can gain experience points by visiting the veterinarian.

Breeding & Kittens

-Breeding cats is the perfect way to start your own lines. First off you need a male and a female of the same breed. Now you go to the male's page and put him up for stud. (If you are using someone else's male the owner would put the male up for stud) for a certain price. Now that the male is up for stud you will again go to the males page and click on his stud fee, which has now become a link with the amount of the stud fee. Here is where you will chose what female you want bred to him from the drop down menu. This will send the request to the owner of the male who must then approve the breeding. Once that has been done the kittens will be born immediately. You have successfully bred your cat.

Keep in mind that if you breed related cats together, the kittens will be inbred! Inbred kittens have a harder time producing viable offspring. Also, breeding inbred cats together will result in stillborn kittens! Direct inbreeding should be avoided for this reason. More distant inbreeding is considered okay and does allow a player to more easily raise the stats of kittens. There isn't an inbreeding penalty for distant inbreeding.

Breeding your cats was the easy part, however. Now you must care for the kittens! To do so, go to your Home page. In the Cats section, click the Litters link. All litters that you own will be listed there. Click on a litter. You will now be brought to a page that gives you a whole bunch of information regarding litters. In summary, you should take care of your kittens once per day so they do not die. You will also need to Remove the Kittens from the Litter before they turn 6 days of age. If they hit 6 days of age, they will go to La La Land!

If you forget to take care of your kittens, a mother cat with a high nurture stat will take care of them on her own. You won't get any bonuses from forgetting to take care of them, but at least they won't die! A mother cat with a low nurture stat, however, will abandon her kittens if you don't help her take care of them. If she abandons a kitten, then YOU are solely responsible for taking care of the kitten. At this point, if a kitten's abandoned and you forget to care for it, it will die.

There are a few different strategies you can use to take care of your kittens. If you want a good Hunting cat, do not handle it at all. Only feed it or nurture it. If you want a good showing cat, be sure to feed it and handle it. Also, a little tip: if you want a cat with a higher rivalry stat, see if you can get the mother cat to abandon the kitten WITHOUT the kitten dying ;)

When cats are bred, they pass on a certain amount of their stats. This is based on the genetic strength of the parents. The higher the genetic strength, the more stats that will be passed on. Be sure to read the Stats section for more information about various stats!

Remember, while a mother cat is taking care of a litter, she is UNABLE to enter shows! Plan your breedings accordingly.

Aging

-All cats within the game age on Friday at Midnight, no matter what day of the week they were purchased/born. Cats age 1 through 8 are classified as Adults. Cats aged 9 and up are classified as Seniors.

Cats can be entered in shows from age 1 through 10. At the age of 11, they are considered retired from showing.

Cats can be bred from age 2 through age 11.

Death

-Death is something we all have to go through at one point or another, and it is no different on KT. Kittens are fragile and need daily care. Cats aged "10" and older can die at any time as well, though if taken care of well they may live considerably longer.

When cats die they are automatically sent to your Cemetery (can be viewed by going to your "home" and clicking on "view cemetery" above your list of cats. Here you can write an Epitaph (a few words about the cat) on their "tombstone". Cats can remain in your cemetery if you chose or you can send them to the Cemetery by clicking "Bury Corpse" on the cat's page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time zone is KT on?
-KT Game time is on Eastern Time Zone. No matter what time zone you are in, the game will always show the same time for all members.

How do I become a Mod?
-Mods are picked by Amanda (site owner). When new mods are needed she will post on the News requesting applications from members. Do not ask to be a moderator, it is considered rude and is a sure way to ensure you will not become a moderator.

My cat is sick, what do I do?
-Take your cat to the veterinarian. See the Rooms section on how to do so.

My page is all messed up, HELP?
-You most likely have some faulty HTML, to fix this there is a link at the top of your page to reset it. If you cannot see the link, message a moderator and they can reset your page for you.

My cat has no energy, what do I do?
-If your cat is not hungry, you will have to wait until the midnight reset for it to go up on it's own. If your cat is still hungry, the only way you can bring this up is to feed it milk.

How do you make layouts?
-You can get a layout several ways. First you can make your own using HTML. There are several sites that teach you how to use different HTML coding to create different effects. Secondly you can have another player make you one, either by placing your own post on the Advertising board looking for one or posting in someone who is offering to do them. Third, you can go to a free layout site. Most layouts will work on KT.

What is a Tag? How do I get one?
-A tag is a small image used instead of or along with your username. You can either make one yourself using a program such as paint. Or you can ask someone who is offering, to make one for you.

I can't remember the answer to my secret question, what can I do?
-Unfortunately there is not much that can be done. The answer to this questions should be something you won't forget for this reason.

When do shows run?
-Shows run at 10:30pm KT Time every night (BoB and BoG shows are exempt from this rule and run at 11:55pm)

My post got deleted, why?
-Your post could have been deleted for a number of reasons. If it was a question, it is most likely answered somewhere on the site. The post may have been inappropriate or have become inappropriate. If you used ChAtSpEaK or talkd lik dis, it may have been deleted.
